APPLYING FOR TREES
IS
AS EASY AS 1, 2, 3, 4, 5!
1. Download an application HERE..
2. Walk up and down your street, noting which houses could use trees. Write down the exact street number.
3. Send out a note, or call or visit your neighbors to see if they'd like to help plant, and care for a free street tree. Make sure they understand that they don't get to pick the tree, and that even though it is technically city property, residents receiving free trees are required to help plant them on planting day, and to take care of them with watering and mulching.
NOTE: If you have elderly or disabled neighbors who would like a tree, make sure you have someone else earmarked to care for their tree. As the tree leader YOU are responsible for all the trees on your street, so delegate wisely!
4. Fill out the application, making sure you include the list (in numerical order please--messy applications will be returned!!!) of all the street addresses getting trees. A successful application has between 5-10 trees requested (we only consider a applications that has at least 5 different households involved), on one or two blocks of the same street, or around one corner.
5. Send in the application, and any other supporting materials (ie., the note or flyer you sent to all your neighbors asking
them if they wanted trees.)
And that's it!
Other good advice: Get local boy/girl scout troups involved, schools and churches often like to do community service. The more folks you have signed on to tree planting and care the better your chances.
